Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please join us and participate in these free events and programs held throughout the month to raise awareness. Join the effort to end domestic violence! United, we can end it!

Calendar of Events: 

  • Oct. 2, 4:30-6:30 p.m. - Hope Rocks - Rock Painting (PDF)
    • 2462 85th Medical Battalion Ave, Building #2462
    • FAP is hosting a rock painting session for parents and their children up to age 5 to raise awareness for domestic violence.
  • Oct. 3, 10, 17, & 24, 31 - Wear Purple on Fridays (PDF)
    • All day, post wide. Show your support! Wear purple every Friday in the month of October.
  • Oct. 9, 11 am - Empowerment and Communication Group (PDF)
    • Army Community Service - 830 Chisholm Ave, Building #830
    • A monthly support group for anyone who has experienced or is currently experiencing relationship discord or domestic violence. Each session offers coping skills, parenting support, psychoeducation, helpful resources and connection with others on the path to healing.
  • Oct. 9, 1-4 p.m. - Married to the Military - Now What? (PDF)
    • Army Community Service - 830 Chisholm Ave, Building #830
    • Spouses will learn about military ranks, military culture, and what to expect as a
      family member transitioning from the civilian experience into the military sphere and lifestyle.
  • Oct. 16, 5-7 p.m. - Meet The First Responders of Fort Meade (PDF)
    • McGill Community Center - 8452 Zimborski Ave. Building #2462
    • Meet and chat with first responders and support professionals. Learn more about available services and resources they provide both on and off the installation. Build stronger connections within our community. Get answers to your questions in a welcoming environment. 

  • Oct. 21, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. - Self Defense and Bystanders Intervention Class (PDF)
    • Army Community Service - 830 Chisholm Ave, Building #830
    • A self-defense education and training program designed to increase bystander awareness and teach intervention techniques during in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, come in flexible workout attire. RSVP at 301-677-4118.
  • Oct. 23, 1-3 p.m. - Painting for Prevention (PDF)
    • 2462 85th Medical Battalion Ave, Building #2462
    • An afternoon for the community to come together and paint while promoting advocacy and awareness about domestic violence.
  • Oct. 25, 7 a.m. - Walk Away from Domestic Violence (PDF)
    • In partnership with the Fun Run Series, Murphy Field House, 8451 Zimborski Ave.
  • Clothesline Project (PDF) - Come by FAP to fill out a card to honor Survivors and those lost to Domestic Abuse. All submissions will b eon display on the Oct. 25 Fun Run.
