Many people who embark on a fitness journey often overlook the necessity to put forth an equal amount of effort regarding eating a healthier diet to help them achieve their fitness and health goals. A 60-minute class that discusses dietary guidelines and food labels will educate individuals on proper nutrition. Attendees will learn the fundamental components of nutrition including macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and water consumption.
How: Hosting a nutrition class at the base gym is a great way to bridge the knowledge gap between both the fitness and nutrition worlds.

When: May 17, 2025, at 10am
Where: Gaffney Group Fitness Room
Why: B, A, & D = BALANCE & ACTIVITY & DETERMINATION
Yoga offers a multitude of benefits for physical, mental, and emotional well-being: 1. It improves flexibility, strength, and balance. 2. Reduces stress, anxiety, and tension. 3. Enhances cardiovascular health and fitness. 4. Aids in pain management for chronic conditions. 5. Boosts immune function and reduces inflammation. 6. Cultivates mindfulness and self-awareness. 7. Supports better sleep quality and duration.
How:
Arrive with a water bottle, hand towel, and Yoga mat (if you have one). We can provide mats for you to use if you don’t have your own. Class teaching format:
9:45-10:30 Vinyasa Flow (Strength, cardio, stretching, breathing)
(5-minute change over for those wanting to come in just for one)
10:35-11:20 Yin Yoga (Slow, stretching, breathing, mindfulness)
11:20-11:30 Clean up and clear out

What: STRONG B.A.N.D.S. Dumbbell Strength Training for Beginners Class
When: May 22, 2025, at 1700-1830
Where: Gaffney Group Fitness Room, followed by session in Free Weight Area
Why: S & A = STRENGTH & ACTIVITY
This class is for people with little to no lifting experience but would like to try and learn the basics. People who wish to learn basic lifting techniques and can work out on their own.
How:
First 60 minutes of class: GF Room downstairs, teach participants how to target major muscles using dumbbells, how to safely workout, basic resistance training knowledge, etc.
SUPERVISED: Additional 30 minutes (optional): Main floor, dumbbell bench area, participants can choose to stay and workout with us for half hour (Hans and Sylvia assist). Participants pick a couple of muscles to work on and we help them.

What: STRONG B.A.N.D.S. Memorial Day BENCH PRESS Competition
When: May 23, 2025, at 1000 until completion (training holiday)
Where: Gaffney Fitness Center Weight Room
Why: D, S, & A = DETERMINATION, STRENGTH, & ACTIVITY
To provide an opportunity for members of the Fort Meade military community to participate in a competitive and challenging strength competition and boost morale and comradery.
How:
Hosting a bench press competition in which lifters are afforded 3 attempts to perform their personal best with fellow community and servicemembers cheering them on.
Lifters will bench press as much as they can while maintaining the shoulders, buttocks on the bench and feet on the floor. Upon receiving the command to START from head judge, the lifter will complete a bench press. For this event ONLY, a ‘Touch and Go’ WILL BE PERMITTED. However, in the interest of maximum safety, BOUNCING will be strictly prohibited and result in immediate disqualification. (NO PRIZES)
